A Resurrection in Delhi

July 21st, 2009 Posted in Masters, Technology, Travel, University

So I’m in a small internet cafe in Delhi, India.

The likelihood of this blog ever taking off properly again gets smaller everyday. Who knows, if you all keep asking I might reinvent it. For now I’ve resurrected it as it’s a handy way to keep you in touch with what’s going on.

I started in London, had a brief stopover in Oman and finally landed in Delhi. The city is incredibly busy and the first time you venture out of the airport you simply get assaulted by a barrage of horns, vehicles, people, heat and humidity. Any rumors you may have heard about traffic in India are true as there are seemingly no rules as to how to navigate the roads. You get used to it though as somehow I haven’t seen a single crash yet. I haven’t decided if this makes them good drivers or not…

So far I haven’t seen much of Delhi itself but today I wandered around the National Museum of India, which is actually pretty rubbish, and then got my Tuk Tuk driver to take me to the India Gate and the Parliament. None other than Hilldog was in Delhi this week for some diplomatic banter with the Indian Prime Minister. I like to think she followed me over here.

On Friday I’m catching a flight to Kathmandu to hang out in Nepal with my Northern Irish doppelganger, David. After a long weekend of clean air with the Himalayas as the backdrop I’ll be returning to India to make my way to Madurai in Tamil Nadu. I will be doing some research for my Masters project at the Aravind Eye Hospital. Aravind uses long range wireless as part of its effort to cure unnecessary blindness and I will be looking at how they use the wireless technology.

That’s all for now, I’m off to try and find some food in the hustle and bustle of Pahar Ganj.
